National Panel umpire Gerard Abood has again been named Cricket NSW’s Representative Umpire of the Year, receiving the award for the second time at the recent CNSW Awards Evening at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Abood has enjoyed a stellar season, which saw him involved in the Australia v West Indies Men’s T20 International series and appointed to oversee two national finals – on-field for the BBL Final and TV umpire in both the Sheffield Shield & One-Day Cup finals.

He performed strongly on-field in five Sheffield Shield matches, three in the One-Day Cup and ten BBL matches including three finals series matches.

Shikha Pandey made her debut for Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club Women’s first grade team on the 11 September 2022.

The game was against Sandgate Redcliffe and Shikha scored 112 and took 2 for 7 to help Wynnum Manly to a comprehensive 178 run win.

Shikha was first selected to play for her state Goa at the age of 17 and in 2014 she made her debut for India in all three formats, Test Cricket, One day Internationals and T20 cricket.

To date Shikha has played 3 Tests, 55 One Day Internationals and 62 T20 games for India.

Cricket typically spans six months, from September to March, during which each club, team, and player must contend with factors such as player availability, weather, pitches, fast and slow outfields, and dropped catches.

What makes it undeniable to play semi final cricket and win premierships is the need to have a connected team with a strong work ethic who play good cricket with the bat, ball, on and the field.

It’s true that catches win matches, but it’s the bowlers who create the chances. Bowlers rely heavily on the batters to score the runs needed to win the game to capitalise on their good efforts when they bowl first and score enough runs to give the bowlers a target to bowl to when the team bats first.

His story just gets better and better...

Our boy Vansh Jani from England had a somewhat modest start to his Aussie summer scoring 91 runs at 22.75 over 4 games. He managed to score a game in 3's where he impressed and started to find his groove. In 3's he eventually scored 401 runs at 50 and even picked up 7 wickets. Towards the end of the season he scored a promotion to 2's and this is where he really took off. In 4 digs he scored 56, 146, 148 and 34. 384 runs at 96.

With Ed Pollock returning to England Vansh became St George 1st Grade player No.477 and in the Semi Final finished with 59 not out in his debut innings batting with Kurtis Patterson.

A week later he scored a premiership ring in 1st Grade and finished with 70 runs at 70 from his two 1st grade digs.

All up he finished with 946 runs and 8 wickets which was enough to win the prestigious Kerry O'Keeffe Medal for the St George DCC Player of the Year.

Unfortunately Vansh has left to return home to England but not before he left an indelible mark on our club and we were glad we could provide him with some opportunities to improve his cricket and live the Australian dream for a short while.

Congrats Vansh on a sensational season

"My story is the story of a rural boy growing up in the dusty streets of Touwsriver in an extended family with strong religious values. Sport in Touwsriver was one of the means to escape the hardship and boredom in this Little Karoo town. Many young kids and I were very privilege to have amazing teachers like Clyde Sass Moos Nicholas, Willem Hartnick and many others. They open the world of sport through books to us. We would play cricket but talk of the great West Indian teams who were our heroes.

Waratahs Cricket Club of Armidale played in the Armidale District CA (formerly the New England CA) from the 1950-51 season until their last game in 2005-06. They had a couple of amalgamations post 2001 - first with Norths and for one season with Centrals - before exiting after one last season under their own, defiant banner at the end of 2005-06.

A club to be proud of, it was at its strongest in the 1980's, not only winning more premierships with its depth of ever rejuvenating talent but having more members and more teams which spread into the junior ranks and the early days of women's cricket.

Keeping the records of Waratahs has always been important. Our Yearbooks are the stuff of Armidale cricket legend - a seasonal review of the club's activity, on and off the field.

Rod Tucker is a former Australian cricketer who has seamlessly transitioned into the realm of cricket umpiring at the highest level. Born on August 28, 1964, in Launceston, Tasmania, Tucker developed a passion for cricket from a young age, honing his skills both as a player and later as an umpire.

As a cricketer, Tucker was a talented left-handed batsman and a handy left-arm orthodox spinner. He made his first-class debut for Tasmania in the 1985-86 season, representing his state with distinction for over a decade. While his playing career didn't propel him to the upper echelons of international cricket, Tucker's understanding of the game and his astute judgment on the field laid the groundwork for his second innings in cricket - as an umpire.

What's your IPF batting index?

If you know the number of innings you've played at any level and the number of scores above 50 you can calculate your Innings Per Fifty Batting Index.

Don Bradman played 338 test and first class innings and scored 117 centuries and 69 half centuries. 186 scores above above 50. 338 innings divided by 186 scores above 50 gives Bradman a IPF Batting Index of 1.82

Former South African Test batter Barry Richards played 576 test and first class innings and scored 80 centuries and 152 half centuries so his IFP Batting Index is 2.48.
