Mark Preddey made his first grade debut on 17 February 1979 as a young leg spinner.

He’s a Sutherland junior and played all the way through from Green Shield, Poidevin Gray and the grades to be Sutherland first grade cap number 84

Who was the best wicket keeper you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

Alan Campbell and Steve Rixon. Alan was immaculate behind the stumps and ‘Stumper’ as the name suggests could get you a stumping from anywhere! They were both amazing keepers, mentors and team players.

Michael Maclennan began his grade cricket career in 1990/91 when he joined Waverley/Eastern Suburbs after growing up in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney.

In 25 seasons of grade cricket Michael has won three premierships, a Benaud medal for the player of the match in the first grade grand final and was selected as one of the top 50 contenders for the Waverley/Eastern Suburbs team of 125 years

At what age did you make your first grade debut in grade cricket and what can you remember about the game?

I was 21 and it was the last game of the season against Mosman at Waverley Oval. It was memorable as at the end of the first days play Brett Lee bowled an amazingly quick spell and had hit two of our players in the helmet and one had been taken off the field. Greg Matthews was the captain and asked if I wanted to be nightwatchman!!! (Crapping myself) I was “yeah sure”, Mark Patterson stepped in and said no “all good I’ll go into to bat.”

Think I scored about 10 and took a catch.

Who opened the batting for Australia v India in the first test of the 1977-78 series. It was Australia’s first test match after players had been banned for signing with World Series Cricket and Bob Simpson was recalled as the Australian Test captain at the age of 41.

Luke is the clubs current First XI captain and has scored over 5,000 runs and taken in excess of 280 wickets for the club.

Who was your childhood hero?

Ricky Ponting – In his prime he was unstoppable. Anytime you had a bat in your hand or something resembling a bat (often a broomstick) You just wanted to imitate those glorious pull shots and drives.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Jacques Kallis – In the conversation as the GOAT, his record as an all-rounder will be near untouched, especially considering he batted in the top order.

Gareth Wyatt has had a decorated career playing in the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association.

He is a Life Member of Main Ridge Cricket Club where he hit 14 centuries at an impressive average of 45.49. He was Main Ridge Club Champion player in consecutive seasons from 1998/99 to 2002/03 and again from 2010/11 to 2013/14.

Gareth also played for Mt Eliza CC in the MPCA and represented the MPCA in Victorian Country Cricket league weeks on a number of campaigns.

4 Test players and a further 10 first class players were on show in the 1984/85 Brisbane First Grade grand final between Valley and Northern Suburbs but it was Valleys big man Paul "Lurch" Lewis who proved the difference taking 5 for 44 in Norths' first innings 199.

Steve Monty and Brett Henschell were the only players to score fifties in a low scoring affair with Valleys ultimately winning by 7 wickets.

Clayton Waters is a self-confessed Northern District ranger through and through.

Debuting for the club in 2004/05 Clayton has played all through the grades with his brand of aggressive keeper/batting and he was very much a staple in 2nd grade for many years during a highly successful era for NDs.

Claytons on field record is immense: 255 matches, 4,958 runs at 24, 280 keeping dismissals, 2nd Grade Premier, 3rd Grade premiership captain, 2 x Club Championship's and 2 x winner of the Bill North Award for Club Person of the Year.

Claytons has also been a massive contributor to the leadership of the club over the years serving as Club Captain from 2016 - 2019, driving NDs social media, leading Pre-Season strength & conditioning programs and Captaining 3rd and 4th grades. His fine captaincy was a big part of 3rd Grade winning the premiership in 2020/21 with a first ever NDCC undefeated season.

Sydney Grade Cricket scores - Round 15 1990-91 season - 9 and 16 March 1991

Pictured - Balmain captain Greg Dyer. After 15 rounds Balmain were Minor Premiers with Mosman 2nd, Sutherland 3rd and Gordon 4th.

Going into the last round Balmain. Mosman and Sutherland were all vying for the minor premiership.

Balmain on 64 points, Mosman 62 and Sutherland 60.

All three teams won the last round with Sutherland denying Campbelltown their chance of making the semis as they were on 54 points with Gordon and Sydney University.

Sydney University lost to Randwick and Gordon defeated Fairfield by 2 wickets.

This was a team of mostly country boys who made their way to Brisbane and played together for a number of years, climbing from the bottom of the ladder to the premiership over a five year period. The team was very close on and off the field and was brilliantly led by one of the nicest blokes ever to play the game, the great Brad Ruddell. And of course, who can forget the contribution made by that NSW interloper, Dale Turner. Dale joined Souths for two seasons and helped take us from being a good side to a premiership winning side. Great memories.
