Did you know that before T20's inception in 2003, New Zealand Cricket invented a new format of the game back in 1996 called 'Cricket Max'.

It was the brainchild of Martin Crowe who claimed "I Invented and designed Cricket Max because I felt it was time to provide to our spectators and TV viewers a game of cricket that was short in duration, very colourful, kept some old traditions and highlighted the best skills in the game."

Rules of the format;

The format of the game involved two teams playing two innings of ten-overs each. It was played on traditional grounds but with one subtle difference. Both sides of the ground had a special ‘Super-Max’ carved out covering the region between long-off and long-on. Basically, every shot that the batter would hit in the Max-zone, they were rewarded with double-returns. If they hit a four in the Max zone, it was considered as ‘eight’ or if they had stroked a six, it was considered as ‘twelve’.

Jake Short is a former leg spin bowler who plied his trade at multiple cricket clubs including Belmont District Cricket Club. Jake was a fantastic teammate who always had time for others.

Can you remember your first game of cricket?

I remember my first game of club cricket. I think my first actual game was for my school but in my first club game I was asked to open because I'm a left handed bat, I scored 49 and was on 49 for quite some time ha-ha, got nervous and got out. I think I took three wickets; I was a leg spinner when no one else other than the great man Shane Warne was so no one knew what to do, I was the boy who saw Warne bowl Gatting and said I want to do that to my dad.

Hawkesbury Cricket Club was very excited to recently announce Trent Johnston as the club's Director of Cricket and Head Coach.

Trent is a high performance coach and former international cricketer, and everyone at Hawkesbury is heading into the 2024–25 season with an extra spring in their step.

Trent Johnston played all his junior cricket in the Illawarra region before beginning his journey in NSW Premier Cricket with Campbelltown-Camden, North Sydney, and Mosman Cricket Clubs.

In 10 seasons of NSW Premier Cricket, Trent took 349 wickets at an average of 20.50, with the best figures of 6 for 17.

Trent made his first class debut for NSW against Tasmania in March 1999, when he opened the bowling with former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee. He played five first class games for NSW.

Greg Edwards made his first grade debut for Western Suburbs on 31 March 1984 against the old Sydney Cricket Club to become the clubs first grade player number 502.

A very talented and stylish batsman Greg had made the move to Wests from Gordon were he’d already played first grade. A measure of Greg’s ability was the quality of the players in Wests first grade team, Dirk Wellham, Greg Matthews, Greg Dyer, David Gilbert, Brad McNamara, Peter O’Reilly, Murray Radcliffe, Peter McLay, Andrew Jones, Tony Dwyer all Australian, NSW or NSW 2nd XI players.

The Rosebud Cricket Club are very excited to announce that AJ King will be joining our club as Assistant Coach.

Coming from Sorrento where he had an outstanding career highlighted by being a member of the Sorrento Team of the 25 years from 1990 to 2015 and also 2010-2020 Team of the Decade.

A former Country Week member of both the MPCA 1sts and 2nds sides AJ has been a prominent Provincial bowler within the MPCA for many years.

AJ coached Tootgarook for two seasons before injuries unfortunately took their toll and his dodgy knees finally packed it in.

AJ will work closely with newly appointed Coach Geoffrey Glaum and we can’t wait to see what these two can bring to our club.

We also welcome Carlie, Harrison and new born Hamish to Shark Park.

Two great Coaching appointments along with some really good recruits makes for an exciting 24/25 season.

Jason Nagel had a decorated career at Rosebud Cricket Club.

For 30 years apart from one season at Mt Eliza Jason has been an incredibly influential player within the club.

He won the Rosebud CC Club Champion award in 12 seasons 1991/91, 1997/98, 2001/02, 2004/05, 2007/08, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16.

He was the Firsts Captain from 2007 to 2012 and is a very proud Life Member of the Club

The second season of America’s Major League Cricket will kick off early on Saturday morning Sydney time and Cricket NSW partner Washington Freedom will begin their Ricky Ponting era.

As the high performance partners of the Washington Freedom franchise, CNSW will have plenty of skin in the game when the Freedom play their first fixture on Sunday morning (5am AEST, July 7) against MI New York, the team owned by the IPL’s Mumbai Indians.

Jarryd was a formidable player in his own right, having played 1st Grade for the Hurricanes. He also played 1st Grade at Blacktown and Sydney grade clubs, and lead the 2nd grade team at Hawkesbury.

Jarryd made the transformation from playing to coaching having coached at Sydney Cricket Club, Blacktown, and Auburn Shires. His diverse coaching experience and deep understanding of the game will undoubtedly benefit our club and pathway as we aim for new heights.

Randwick Petersham Cricket Club

John Pearson played just two seasons, 13 years apart, with Petersham-Marrickville, yet he was one of the most influential members of the club in the 1980s and through to its merger with Randwick in 2001.

Born on 15 October 1947 at Leichhardt and educated at Ibrox Park Boys High (now Leichhardt High), John Charles Pearson played his early Grade Cricket with Balmain. Prior to the 1968-69 season, John’s brother-in-law, Jeff McQueen, had an offer to join Petersham-Marrickville and the young opening bat, who had played a handful of 2nd Grade matches with Balmain, decided to go with him. Starting in 3rd Grade, Pearson impressed with top-score of 78 in only his second game. It was a match against Northern District which ended in a rare tie with both sides scoring 254. However, after five matches and a tally of 161 runs and nine wickets, selectors ushered him into 2nds where he completed the season.
