In the modern world of professional cricket, it is highly unlikely that the Australian Test captain would take a team from his Premier Cricket Club on a weekend trip of social cricket.

Bob McMillan played second and third grade, as an opening bowler, for Parramatta (Cumberland) and first grade Rugby Union for Parramatta, but later in life he moved to the country and became a ‘Bush Poet’ – a great fan of Henry Lawson.

1. Brian Booth is selected in the Australian squad for the 1961 tour of England. He makes his debut in the fourth Test at Old Trafford, dubbed ‘Benaud’s Manchester miracle’ after England lose 9 for 51 in the fourth innings. Booth scores 46 and 9 as Australia win by 54 runs. (1961-62)

At the Bears’ annual Presentation Night in April, Dylan Johnson was named as Young Club person of the Year, and Tim Reynolds and Chloe Blackwell as joint Club people of the year.

Young Clubperson of the Year is an important award to acknowledge those members of the club under the age of 23 that show outstanding dedication to the club whether that be on the field or in an administrative capacity. The 2024/25 winner of this award is Dylan Johnson.

Nick Bertus ‘A knack for Winning - Parramatta District Cricket Club

Apart from his personal talent as a cricketer, it’s his ‘knack for winning’ that distinguishes Nick Bertus from all other prominent captains of the Parramatta District Cricket Club teams.

His winning association with Parramatta commenced in 2007/08 when he was a member of the premiership winning A.W. Green Shield team (captained by Sean Abbott). Nick’s own captaincy success started when he guided Parramatta’s Poidevin-Gray Shield team to the 2012/13 title.

In the winter of 2020, the Bears held a poll to determine the Team of the 2010s, resulting in a powerful XII which would strike fear into the heart of any opposition line-up.

It is a powerful team with a strong batting line-up and six versatile frontline bowling options.

The right/left hand opening pairing of Tom Jagot and Daniel Hughes would be a nightmare for opposition attacks.

Druhv Kant – The Gloveman

The talented wicketkeeper / batsman joined Parramatta from the Blacktown Club at the start of the 2020/21 season.

He was immediately selected in First grade and his presence enabled skipper Nick Bertus to handover the keeper’s role and focus on his batting and captaincy duties.

Druhv is nimble and sharp behind the stumps, and with the bat, the right-hander possesses a fighting temperament, fine array of strokes and his industrious approach to batting ‘ticks the scoreboard over at a positive rate.’

Randwick Petersham has a proud record of cricket representation at the international level. Players such as Simon Katich, Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Nathan Hauritz and Daniel Sams have played Test, ODI and Twenty 20 cricket for Australia against other cricket-playing nations across the world. Many of our first-class players and club cricketers have played against international teams at various levels, while some have toured other countries with indigenous squads, age-limited teams and club groups.

This season we are proud to add the name of promising young all-rounder, Kaisei Doggett, as our newest international representative, after he made his playing debut in a country where we have not been represented in the past–Japan.

St George First Grade Player No.242 - Wayne Turnbull.

A true Club Legend as well as a Life Member. Wayne scored 2335 runs in 1st Grade with a top score of 103. He also scored 4575 runs in 2nds (5th all time highest) with a highest score of 204* and 7330 runs (11th all time highest) in all grades. He captained 2nd Grade to an astonishing 6 Finals which they won three in a row between 1986-87 to 1988-89.

Alan Cramond was a towering figure, both physically and in accomplishment, in the story of the Parramatta (Cumberland) District Cricket club lower grade teams. Like ‘Old Man River’ Big AL just kept rolling along underpinning the club’s lower grades in a career that stretched between 1946/47 and 1968/69, and he also played a role off the field as a long time Management Committee member and club selector. On the 20th May 2022 he turned 100 years of age.

During his time with Parramatta Alan played plenty of 2nd grade, but it was in the 3rd grade arena that he left a legacy both as a captain and player.

Penrith headquarters is named after Bill Howell (Howell Oval).

Born at Penrith on the 29th of December 1869 and died at Castlereagh 14th July 1940. Bill, as a youth was a wicket keeper for Warwick in Sydney Club Cricket. Note that talent, because Howell's career development is a classic illustration how first impressions can be misleading. It was his left-hand batting in the 1894/95 Country week Carnival in Sydney that gained him selection in the NSW team to play AE Stoddart's visiting English team that season....yet, in that game at the SCG he revealed his greatest talent, right arm medium fast off cut bowling

Kevin Cantwell holds a special place in the annals of Australian and NSW baseball. A regular member of the NSW Claxton Shield team between 1956 and 1971, both as player and coach, he was inducted into the Australian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005. And like many other top baseballers, Kevin was a 1st Grade cricketer, playing his whole career with Petersham-Marrickville and the former Petersham club.

John Kevin Cantwell was born at Paddington on 9 June 1934 and like most schoolboys, played rugby league in the winter and cricket in the summer.
