Born in Nottingham, England Jon Shaw started his cricket journey with Kimberley Institute Cricket Club in Nottinghamshire. He’s played County 2nd XI cricket in England, in regional towns in Victoria, Australia and to his own surprise at the age of 40 is playing some very good cricket for Wynnum Manly District Club in Queensland Premier Cricket. Jon Shaw is Wynnum Manly first grade player number 322

Who was the best wicket keeper you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

Kimberley has two great keepers in the 90’s and 2000’s in Carl Widdowson and Martin Clark. I can’t remember them dropping more than a couple of catches.

The best gloveman I played with was Ismail Dawood at Herefordshire. His handling was so clean and he always knew what to say to the bowlers to fire them up.

Ian Stenhouse grew up in Rockhampton and despite being just over 600 kilometres from Brisbane was identified as a very talented young cricketer. His talent and performances were rewarded with selection in Queensland under age teams from 11 through to the Australian Under 19s at the age of 17.

Cricket took Ian around the world at a very young age and its been quite the journey

Who are the two players you admired most in terms of skills and competitive spirit in the competitions you played?

Scott Prestwidge had so much skill. Bat Ball and fielding. He was outstanding. Loved a bit of biff as well!!

Loved having Craig Jesberg in the team as well. All round skill and always up for a fight! Loved the dogs at the Gabba on a Thursday night!

Cricket NSW is celebrating Women and Girls Week from November 20-26, and the state’s Central Coast has more reason to feel joyous than just for a week.

It was eight years in the making, but Cricket NSW’s (CNSW) and Central Coast Cricket Association’s (CCCA) bid to have female only teams in every club at all community-based levels of the game has finally been a success.

Central Coast is fast turning out to be NSW’s female cricket hub. This year, during Women & Girls Week, Cricket NSW will celebrate stories of success for seven days, bringing forth extraordinary stories of ordinary women and girls who have thrived on and off the cricket field because of their love of the sport.

A hearty congratulations to Captain Pat and his World Champion One Day side! Of course, Captain Pat also leads the current World Test Champions too. Not bad...not bad at all for a new age bloke with a few political views and a penchant for Aristotle-style Coaches as opposed to Aussie Alphas.
Okay, so I'm being a bit cheeky on this post, provoking a few of my grizzled, old Grade Cricket toughie comrades. You know, the Steve Waugh crew; my mob who reckon Langer was hard done by and that modern players are a bit precious and sometimes even petulant.
The irony of course of me stirring the pot this way is that I was an avowed Stephen Rodger acolyte; an avid admirer of his hard, old-school ways. But you grow older don't you, and you reflect. So, my cricket brothers, here are some scoring opportunities. Who's keen to play a few shots? C'mon, we're not the leaving "No Runnn" types, are we?
Half volley 1- the Australian pathway system is imperfect but producing good results. We win World Championships.
Half volley 2- the load management, training phasing and overall coaching of our bowlers was superb. How else did they peak so perfectly? The loading and resting and MRI scanning is working.
Half volley 3- you don't have to be as Hayden refers to them 'an Australian Great' to be a successful Head Coach of an Australian side.
Half tracker 1- the “new age' overall workload management of players that aims at keeping them mentally healthy and connected to their loved ones and communities seems to be working.
Half tracker 2- the Australian selection panel is doing a very, very good job.
Half tracker 3- the large contingent of support staff seem to be minimising injuries, maximising playing time and providing excellent environments for the players to excel in.
Anyone that saw my 2-over first grade bowling career one Sunny afternoon at Old Kings against Paramatta circa 2000 will recognise the deliveries above. Let's see if I do better than 1-17 this time. Play a few shots, lads and lasses.

In business the worse place to come in a deal (or tournament in the case of this analogy) is second. All the effort, hope and cost to be told you’ve just missed out, is soul destroying!

That’s why it’s best to qualify out or in with factors you know differentiate you from the competition.

In this regard, well done the England team for making an early call and qualifying out. 😉

Seriously, India will be hurting this morning, and it will take a while. However, they lost to an incredible Aussie team with strength in all departments and a brilliant game plan.

They set the tone with exceptional fielding and commitment to the plans even when India got off to a flyer.

That final partnership was fascinating to watch, especially the contrast in styles between Labuschane and Head. Some great lessons for young players on how to bat as a partnership and manage chasing down a score.

I reckon if these two teams played each other 10 times, it would be 5 each. It just happened to be Australia’s day. That’s cricket and business. Sometimes you just need a few things to go your way and stick to your plans to get the trophy. 🏆

I.T Job Opportunities and a little cricket

🏆🏆 AUSTRALIA ARE CHAMPS AGAIN 🏆🏆

Happy Monday everyone, I've never been more excited to wake up Monday morning as it turns out my prediction of a few months back that Australian would beat India in the final has aged quite well.
A hell of a tournament from both teams but as I said in my post a few months back, India haven't handled the pressure in big moments over the past decade or so and this was no different. Over 130,000 people in attendance, millions of people watching with all eyes on them maybe got the better of them I feel. Mind you, the Aussies played outstanding cricket I thought. Stuck to their game plans throughout and backed the process they had in place.

I don't like saying I told you so... but in this case I think I can, right? 🤔🤣

On another note, I am working a few roles as we head into the holiday season:
💻Senior Backend - Node/TypeScript/GCP - Melbourne bases
💻Engineering Lead - Ruby on Rails/Node/TypeScript/React/AWS - Melbourne or Sydney
💻Test Lead - Transformation project on an internal system - Sydney based

If you're interested in any of these please reach out for a chat.

The cricket family and wider community is saddened by the passing overnight of former Cricket NSW chairman and Life Member Dr Gorur ‘Harry’ Harinath OAM.

Dr Harinath came to Australia from Hyderabad in 1971 and began work at the Mercy Hospital in Tasmania with barely a dollar to his name, before forging a highly successful medical career and making a seismic contribution to cricket.

After a year in the Apple Isle, Harinath built a friendship with former Pakistani batsman Sadiq Mohammad and was recruited to play for his cricket team, thus beginning a five-decade long connection to the game in this country.

In 1977, Dr Harinath joined Balmain Cricket Club (now Sydney Cricket Club) as their team doctor at the invitation of then Australian Cricket Board chairman Fred Bennett. It wasn’t long before Dr Harinath's passion and administrative skills led to him to the club’s presidency - a role he held for more than 30 years.
