All-rounder Moises Henriques will play his 100th Sheffield Shield match when he leads the NSW Men’s Team against Western Australia at the SCG in the fixture that begins on Monday.

Selectors have named a 13-player Blues squad that includes three additions to the 11 that went down to Victoria at the MCG in their last Shield match. One player will drop out of the squad later today.

Fast bowler Liam Hatcher, all-rounder Hayden Kerr and powerful batter Ollie Davies come in for Ben Dwarshuis and Jack Edwards. Chris Green was 12th man for the Melbourne fixture and is again in the squad for this clash. Edwards was not considered for selection as he manages minor niggles.

UTS North Sydney Cricket Club - September, October 2023 - Month 1 wrap

First Grade opened with a new-look T20 competition that brought a few new faces to the North Sydney First Grade squad, with 3 debuts. Everett Oxenham, Addison Sherriff and Hugh Sherriff became players 690, 691 and 692, respectively, for the club. Everett and Addison's debuts were also their first games in First Grade.

In a strange quirk to the new format, our first match, against last year's finalists, Sydney Uni, was played at Bensons Lane in Hawkesbury. After winning the toss and batting first, we only managed to post 7-119 off our 20 overs, with contributions from JA (Justin Avendano), Mac Jenkins and Maresy (Dylan Mares)to help us to the total. With a modest total on the board, we would need to be inch-perfect with the ball and almost were, with Sydney Uni passing our total 8 down with just 3 balls to spare. Debutant Everett was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-26 off his 4. Fellow spinner Mac was also miserly, taking 2-23 off his 4.

Ron Saggers could be regarded as Marrickville DCC greatest cricketer. An excellent batsman and wicket-keeper of exceptional skill he played for Australia, NSW and Marrickville with outstanding success.

While he was a classy batsman, it was his polish as a wicket-keeper with an amazing ability to effect stumping’s which was on regular display during his international playing career between 1939 and 1951. Sagger’s record shows that of his 221 first-class career dismissals, no less than an amazing 75…or 34%…were stumped.

A 12-player NSW Men’s Team has been named for their Marsh One-Day Cup clash with Western Australia at Cricket Central in Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday.

Off spinner Nathan Lyon, pace bowler Liam Hatcher and Kurtis Patterson drop out of the team that defeated South Australia in Adelaide on October 20, with their places taken by Hayden Kerr, Jack Nisbet and Blake Macdonald.

Kerr is returning from an injury suffered in NSW’s Sheffield Shield opener, Nisbet will play his second One-Day Cup match of the season, while Macdonald is set to make his one-day debut for the Blues.

Tim Cox started his cricket journey in Dubbo with the RSL Colts Cricket Club and with great delight the club has watched his career progress to from first grade cricket in Dubbo to first grade premier cricket in Sydney, NSW Country and to cricket in Newcastle.

At what age did you make your first grade debut in grade cricket and can you remember how you performed in debut?

In premier cricket in Sydney I was 20 and UNSW played Gordon. I batted number 7 and got 88 not out after a top order collapse on day one. That was my highest score in 1st Grade in Sydney. It was a great initiation to 1st grade spending time in the middle facing Matthew Nicholson. I think we went on to win the game.

I have had this document for 50 odd years. It appeared in 1934, when 25-year-old Donald Bradman was vice captain of the Australian team about to travel to England for the Ashes, under the leadership of William “Bill” Woodfull. It is interesting to note that the famous ABC Cricket Book, read my most cricket supporters, was also first published in 1934.

Dylan Connell joined Gordon and made his first grade debut in 2000. In 11 seasons Dylan took 294 first grade wickets at an average of 24.74 with best bowling of 6 for 27. He took 5 wickets in an innings on 11 occasions

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

There is one match that comes to mind, we were playing Fairfield -Liverpool at Chatswood Oval. We won the toss and batted. Beau Casson scored 200 plus out of over 400 for Gordon. His innings was flawless.

On day two Fairfield had some early luck before Grant Lambert also went on to score 200 plus and get them home in the last few overs. Was an amazing match where both teams scored well over 400 with a double century in both innings.

One of, if not the greatest Victorian Premier cricketer of all time, Warren Ayres, is the all time leading run scorer with 15 277 runs @ 42.43. He also holds the record for most centuries with 41, has two double centuries, boasts two 1100+ run seasons including the all time best aggregate season of 1166 runs. He’s won two Ryder Medals, played in four premierships at Melbourne, lead Dandenong to their first ever premiership as captain-coach, and recently coached Carlton to a drought breaking Premier Firsts premiership as well as the inaugural National Premier T20 Championships title.

On top of this Warren also played 46 First Class games for Victoria, scoring 2611 runs @ 33.91 including 7 centuries and 11 half centuries. He also played 16 List A games. It’s easy to understand why he’s such a well respected and highly regarded figure.
