St George DCC First Grade Player No.304 - Patrick Farhart

After finishing with St George DCC, Patrick Farhart went on to become one of the Premier Physiotherapist in world cricket.

He graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelors and a Masters qualification. Since July 2020 he has been a PHD candidate at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Twin sisters Kelsey and Rebecca Miller Joined Parramatta in the 2015/16 season and their dynamic batting performances were instrumental in the club’s 2nd grade team reaching the Grand Final for the first time in the coveted 50 overs competition.

Foreshadowing ‘what was in store’ for opposition bowling attacks in coming seasons the sisters showed their class and ominous run-making prowess in that first-up season in the two-blues of Parramatta, in all formats (T20 and 50 overs matches) Rebecca struck an impressive 578 runs @ 48.17 (H.S. – 102*) and Kelsey chimed in with an imposing 507 runs @ 39.1 (H.S. – 76*).

Penrith Cricket Club Second Team of the Decade - 1983-1993

Trevor Bayliss has the right credentials to be a selector. His First-class career is acknowledged, and, after cricket, he became a much-sought-after coach. He rose through the coaching ranks in NSW, from Under-19s to Colts, to 2nd XI, all winners. NSW lifted the Pura Cup (Sheffield Shield) and the One-day Cup. He coached Sri Lanka to five Test Series wins and to a World Cup Final.

We are blessed at St George to have an excellant crop of young cricketers who are not just talented at their sporting pursuits but fine young Saints men off the field. Taj McLoughlin is a perfect example of a young cricketer who plays for the love of the club and his team but seemingly improves with each opportunity to play his sport. Jamieson Hedges - Never Say Die

Left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder, Jamieson Hedges, joined the UTS North Sydney Bears in the 2019/20 Green Shield squad. He made his First Grade debut three years ago, earning cap #685, and now opens the bowling while also consistently making important contributions with the bat.

We sat down with Jamieson to reflect on his journey with the Bears so far, including a baptism of fire at the top grade, winning a PGs Premiership, coaching our women, and his aim to win five straight Belvidere Cups!

Adam Turrell was a Wenty Waratahs junior and began his career with Parramatta as a wicket-keeper / batsman in A.W. Green Shield team of 2003/04 – he is the son of club icon Allen Turrell – and entered the NSW Premier Cricket ranks via 5th grade in season 2005/06.

In that first season (2005/06) Adam impressed as a consistent performer with the bat, producing a solid 340 runs @ 26.15 (H.S. – 72) and behind the sticks he snapped up 14 catches and 4 stumpings.

Lord Ian Botham Lunch

Last Thursday Gordon CC held our annual lunch event at Dockside, Darling Harbour. Our special guests were Lord Ian Botham and Geoff Lawson. We had a great roll up with 400 people, and the crowd was thoroughly entertained. This was the 5th year of these events, and everyone of them has been a huge success. Congratulations to Glenn Tullia for organising another great event. We are already looking forward to next year.

Marshall Rosen Reflects on Chatswood Oval

Marshall Rosen – former NSW batsman with 7028 runs for the club in all grades at an average of 34.62, including 14 centuries. At the bowing crease his 180 wickets at 19.30 gave him all-round status which was further acknowledged when one considers he kept in the absence of Brian Taber, effecting 92 dismissals, 59 catches and 33 stumpings in 18 seasons at the club. A Life Member who gave much on and off the field for his club, joining the Committee and being a delegate to Cricket NSW for 21 years

Trevor Chappell Reflects on Playing at Chatswood Oval

Trevor Chappell played with the Gordon DCC from the 1980-81 season until the end of the 1984-85 season. He scored 1095 runs in First Grade during that time at 35.52 and took 32 wickets at 23.91. His fielding was outstanding. It was whilst he was at the club that he was selected for New South Wales and Australia. Following his retirement, he returned to the club and coached both the women’s and men’s team giving much from his playing and coaching days.

A family affair for the Bears

The Bears’ Women’s Second Grade Round 4 win over St George-Sutherland was a family affair, with two mother-daughter pairs on the field, two dads coaching and one managing the team!

The match was a tense affair, with the Bears chasing down 169 7 wickets down in the final over, thanks to an unbroken partnership of 36 between the two mums, Bernadette Robson (46*) and Anu Raj (16*) on Second Grade debut).

First Penrith Team of the Decade (1973-1983)

John Benaud, who became an Australian selector (1988-93) and later for NSW (1997-2002), thinks this combination is sure to get the tongues wagging in ‘Half-A-Bar’! The first player chosen would be Geoff Davies, a leg-spinner of great talent. There’s never been a great Australian cricket team that hasn’t had a great leg-spinner—fact or myth?

Next, we need a wicket-keeper to handle the wily Davies, and there’s only two in the frame, Greg Gavin and Les Andrews

Vale Barry Knight

We received sad news about the passing last night of Barry Knight, aged 87 years old.

Notably, Knighty scored two Test centuries and took 70 Test wickets at 31. Across first-class cricket, he racked up 13,336 runs and 1,089 wickets at an average of 24, a true all-rounder. He achieved the rare feat of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in a county season four times and was especially proud of dismissing Gary Sobers three times in the 1966 series in England.

He joined Mosman in the 1969/70 season after leaving Essex and became a mainstay of the club.
