Vale Peter Taylor

I am shocked and saddened to report the passing of Peter Taylor, a proud Randwick Petersham Cricket Legend and former 1st Grade captain of the old Petersham-Marrickville club. Peter was found deceased in his Meadowbank home unit on Thursday 21 September. It appears he passed away up to a week before that. Many of his friends had been following him on Facebook as a result of his recent stint in Concord Hospital with a “mystery” illness which turned out to be a problem with his kidneys. After his discharge from hospital, he commented in a Facebook post some 10 days ago that he had received some physio and he felt “terrific” (his description). He is survived by two sisters, Cathy at Terrigal and Jann in Brisbane. Peter would have been 70 on 2 October.

Harry Austin is Ipswich first grade player number 55 and he scored his maiden first grade century for Ipswich against Sandgate Redcliffe on 16 January 2022.

Chasing Sandgate Redcliffe first innings total of 302, Harry hit 10 fours and 3 sixes on his way to 100 not out to lead Ipswich to victory by 2 wickets.

Can we ask, what would it mean to you to play first class cricket and for your country?

It would be great to play at a higher level but if it never happens, I'm happy with that too. I play cricket to enjoy it and hopefully make some great memories along the way. If I can sit back at end of my playing days and say that I gave myself the best opportunity to be the best player I could be than I’ll be happy.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation is shining the spotlight on young people living with cancer, and in particular sarcoma.
Lives are changed irreversibly in the blink of an eye, as sarcoma hits our young disproportionately hard.
We thank the following well known Australians who joined CRBF to focus on our young, and the loss of potential, hopes and dreams that often accompany a sarcoma diagnosis.

Harry Walker follows a long line of outstanding University wicket keeping batters. Lew Cooper, Wade Seccombe and Chris Hartley all played first class cricket for Queensland.

Harry has come through the Queensland under age teams and represented Queensland Under 19s at the National Championships in 2019/20.

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

Angus Lovell seems to keep getting better each year and is someone who I love watching bat, starting with back-to-back centuries in the one day comp. Max Clayton's skills are second to none however, his work ethic and commitment at training is something I admire.

Lindwall and Miller

50 Tests in tandem: 340 wickets

They complemented each other beautifully: Keith Miller – charismatic, eccentric, explosive – and the less obtrusive Ray Lindwall with the classic action of a thoroughbred.

The Aussies terrorised batsmen for a decade and were both part of Sir Don Bradman’s 1948
‘Invincibles’ team, although Miller fell out with his captain when he allowed himself to be bowled first ball as his colleagues plundered 721 in a day v Essex.

Lindwall was the quiet all-round champion sportsman who retired to run a florist’s shop while Miller’s flamboyant and chaotic style was epitomised by his comments when discovering once that there were 12 fielders. “One of you ‘eff off,” he suggested, “and the rest? Scatter…”

After many years of much promise with little results to show the St George District Cricket Club enjoyed an uncanny period of success in its numerous “PG’s” Under 21 competition campaigns between seasons 03/04 to 07/08. The club took out an unprecedented 4 premierships in these 5 seasons whilst placing 4th in the middle season of 2005-06. Keeping in mind the NSW Premier Cricket Competition consists of 20 clubs. Premierships are tough to come by.

Let’s take a little trip back and look at some of the teams, the players and their campaigns.
