THE SEMIS - B Grade v Tadcoop 1963
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | March 25, 2026

Never have two players so dominated team performances as the Geoff’s - MacDonald (#168) and Marshall (#156) - did in B Grade in 1962-63. Between them, they made 800 runs and took 160 of the 180 wickets which fell to bowlers. In this outing, they took 14 wickets as Tadcoop batted twice to lose their game outright by an innings and the length of the street and also scored of Waratahs three half centuries.
The Geoff’s bowled unchanged in Tadcoop’s short first innings, Marshall taking seven of the first eight to fall and MacDonald the last two. Seven of the batsmen left after their stumps had been disturbed.
Waratahs top five were untroubled taking the score to 4-268 when Bill Nixon (#79) retired to give others a bat. Mick Halpin (#170) top scored after opening the batting and Marshall and MacDonald also enjoyed their time at the crease. Greg Russell (#131) showed enough to know he would score heavily in future years and go on to be one of the best juniors Waratahs ever produced.
batting a second time, Tadcoop were destined for a repeat performance of their first innings but Schaefer resisted at first and then hit out as he ran out of partners. He was one of four John Russell (#89) victims and MacDonald, almost inevitably, took five.
Waratahs have never looked a stronger favourite for a Premiership.
