THE SEMIS - 4th Grade v Norths, Major Semi 1995
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | March 22, 2026

Now in the era of minor and major semi finals, Minor Premiers Waratahs took on 2nd placed Norths in the Major semi, having beaten them the weekend before in the final round. It had been a high scoring affair, with both sides getting more than 200, with Kingsley Chapman (#663) top scoring with a half century batting at seven and a deep bowling line up recovering after Norths got away. Scott Murphy (#725) was their gun and Joe Cairns (#726) the perfect all rounder with lots of both wickets and runs through the whole season.
The semi was oh so different!
North’s Heiniger ripped out three of the first four quickly and despite a defiant half century from Matt Griffiths (#717), once ex-Waratahs Tim Hadfield removed him, the rest folded and 106 was never going to be enough.
Sunil Reddy (#622) and Cairns put Waratahs back in the game but with Norths 3-19, their heavily experienced middle order took over and batted out the Saturday and then far too long and far too in front for the game to extend after tea on the Sunday. Everyone had a bowl, even keep Murphy but the semi was well and truly lost and Waratahs would have to get to the Grand Final via the back door.
