ON THIS DAY - 22 February
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | February 22, 2026

In 1958, JEFF WALSH (#84) and TED CROTTY (#98) added 114 for the 4th wicket as B grade made a very creditable 5-210 in a one day game against Public Service.

In 1969, J McCANN (#222) and KEITH McINTYRE (#129) added 102 for the 5th wicket as A-Res grade ran up yet another competitve score in a season of dominance. For McIntyre, it was the final achievement of twelve seasons with Waratahs, with his only century and the only time a player has carried his bat and made a hundred. His second innings half century put him in rare company as one of only three batsmen who have scored a century and a half century in the same match.
Waratahs v Armidale Teachers College - A-Res grade, 22nd February & 1st March 1969
Waratahs 265 (Keith McIntyre 101x, J McCann 66, Allan Smith 54. G Wilkin 5-83) and 6-150 (Keith McIntyre 52 ret, Garry O'Halloran 22x, Col Marshall 21ret) defeated ATC 244 (Brian Breen 133x. Col Marshall 4-45)
In 1975, BRIAN JOICE (#218) took 8-47 for A-Res grade v Easts. (no scoresheet available)
In 1992, SHAMUS ROBERTSON (#629), in a match shorted by rain on the first day on which he took 7-29 to skittle YCW in less than 27 overs, Waratahs replied at 6 an over in making more than 300. The star was ... the same Shamus Robertson, who smashed 160!
Waratahs v YCW - 3rd grade, 15th & 22nd February 1992
STEVE HADFIELD (#524) held the first 3 catches of Ex Services innings as 1sts held Ex Services at bay.
Waratahs v Ex Services - 1st grade, 15th & 22nd February 1992
In 1997, in the worst playing disaster in Waratahs history, 1st grade lost a one day game OUTRIGHT by 10 wickets against Hillgrove Colts. Seven very gallant players, led by Lachlan Bennett (#587), took the field as a result of the selectors decision to play with full sides in 3rd and 4th grade on the same day and leave 1st grade to the wolves. Dan Norman (#730) carried his bat in the first innings and was not out against in an even worse second innings. Its not the players who took the field who should feel ashamed of this performance and it was the deathknell of Waratahs having a first grade side in competition, with the ADCA looking very dimly on Waratahs administrators at the time.
