ON THIS DAY - 16th February
Armidale Waratahs (The Tahs) | February 16, 2026

In 1957, ROSS RIDLEY (#8) made his only hundred for Waratahs, with a blistering 106 (7 sixes) when only one other player in the top eight made double figures! He was out at 8-162. Earlier, ROY SMITH (#83) cut Rugby League apart before they rallied on the second day on the back of Ron Madden's 95.

In 1963, GEOFF MacDONALD (#168 - pictured) became the second of only five players to take five wickets in an innings and score a century in the same match, taking 8-35 as de la Salle were skittled on the first day and then making 106 not out in the substantial Waratahs reply which set up the outright. Unfortunately, no details are available of DLSC second innings of 101, where MacDonald is sure to have featured with the ball.
Waratahs v DLSC - B grade, 16th & 23rd February 1963
DLSC 77 (Geoff MacDonald 8-35) and 101, lost to Waratahs 287 (Geoff MacDonald 106x, Mick Halpin 84, Geoff Marshall 35)
In 1980, CHRISTIAN QUAIFE (#372) made 96 for B grade against an unlnown opponent (obscured from the newspaper record).
In 1985, TIM MULDOON (#296) was easily the pick of the batsmen, making 113 and half of Waratahs response to St Peters relatively easy 1(dec) 257 on the first day. Two Tahs members of today - Paul Ryan (#883) and Michael Hawkins (#905) - added an unchallenged double century partneship, with the declaration coming as Ryan bought up his 150. St Peters bowling lineup was a star-studded one with both Dave Nosworthy and Peter Browning not even getting to use the new ball!

In 1991, BEDE RYAN (#503) made his only 1st grade ton for Waratahs, scoring 111 not out against Centrals and sharing a grade record 9th wicket partnership with WARWICK EATHER (#626) of 107 unbeaten. Paul Melville (#556) made three catches behind the stumps as Centrals struggled all afternoon on the second day, taking 66 overs to be all out for just 144. The first three Waratahs bowlers - Shamus Robertson (#629), Daniel Ryan (#514) and Greg Lough (#627) bowled 47 overs for just 59 runs with Centrals finding it hard to get the ball off the square.
