William Brodie was a towering figure in the history of the Parramatta District Cricket Club during a career that commenced with the Club in 1870 and concluded with Central Cumberland in 1896.

Away from the cricket field W.A. Brodie was a high profile figure in the local community. Seven times he was elected an alderman of the Parramatta Council and his name appears on the fountain erected at the junction of Church and Macquarie Streets Parramatta to mark the centenary of Australia in 1888 (the fountain remains in place in 2026).
