CricConnect Volunteer Recognition Series. Trevor and Betty Ray – Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club

Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club | March 18, 2026

At Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club, known as the Ghosts, Trevor and Betty Ray are more than volunteers.

They are part of the fabric of the club.

Both Trevor and Betty are Life Members of Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club, recognition of decades of service, commitment and care.

Their journey began in 1994 when their eldest son Roscoe started playing grade cricket. Like many parents, their first involvement was simple, helping with covers on a Friday afternoon and preparing the canteen for play on Saturdays.

What started as helping, soon became something much more.

When their younger son Stuart joined the club, playing 5th grade and Green Shield, Trevor and Betty’s involvement deepened. They travelled across Sydney with their boys, scoring matches, supporting teams and becoming familiar faces around the club. Betty scored all of Stuart’s Green Shield games, while continuing to help in the canteen at Raby.

Cricket had become a family commitment.

Their connection to the Ghosts was a natural one. Both boys had come through the ranks at Ingleburn Cricket Club, and with Trevor also coaching district representative teams at under 11, 13 and 15 level, the pathway to Campbelltown Camden felt like the right fit.

Over time, Trevor and Betty became the kind of volunteers every club relies on.

Trevor not only scored but also managed Roscoe’s 2nd grade side, continuing even after Roscoe left to play cricket in England. Behind the scenes, he has taken care of maintenance and equipment, quietly ensuring things are ready for match day.

Betty’s contribution has been just as significant. From helping in the canteen in the early days, she took over full-time management in 2017 and continues in that role today. Week in, week out, she helps create the environment that players and supporters enjoy.

Together, they have given decades of consistent, hands-on support.

Among many memories, a few moments stand out.

Roscoe becoming the club’s leading wicket taker, a record he still holds.

And Stuart’s Green Shield side winning both the final and the State Championship in the 1995/96 season.

When asked to name a favourite player, Betty’s answer is simple.

Roscoe.

Not just for his performances, but for his loyalty to the club over more than 20 years and his commitment to supporting younger players coming through.

For Trevor and Betty, the Ghosts represent far more than cricket.

It’s community.

It’s spirit.

It’s camaraderie.

“Developing local juniors is a major factor of the club,” they say. “There is great club spirit and the camaraderie between the players is wonderful to see.”

They’ve seen the club evolve over more than 30 years, including the recent addition of an indoor training facility, but what hasn’t changed is the people.

A strong committee. Hard working volunteers. A shared commitment to the club.

And while they’ve already given so much, they’re not done yet.

“I think we will be actively involved for a few more years yet.”
