Matt Jensen came down from Mackay as a promising fast bowler and within 2 seasons was selected to play for Queensland 2nd XI.

Can you remember you first game of cricket?
1st game of cricket was indoor cricket when I was 8 and then I started outdoor cricket when I was 10. I’d love to say I killed it but to be honest I can’t remember !
Tell us briefly about your cricketing journey?
Souths Cricket Club in Mackay from 1996 - 2007
Northern Suburbs in Brisbane from 2007 -2014
I played a season of cricket in England in 2011
What other sports do you play?
I have always played cricket but since giving up outdoor due to injuries and family life, I’m currently playing a lot more indoor cricket
What is your favourite sports movie or documentary?
Cool Runnings
What’s the one thing about you most people don’t know about?
I’m a mad v8 supercar fan and a qualified sheet metalworker
What’s your highest score in senior cricket?
Not many high scores comes with batting down the lower outdoor but I believe it was playing a grade In Mackay against Walkerston
What has been your best bowling figures in senior cricket?
Best bowing figures was 7 for 13 for Northern Suburbs in 2nd grade against Gold Coast. I actually think it was my 2nd last game for the club
Can you tell us which players in the club we should be looking out for in terms of higher representative honours?
I’m not involved much anymore with the Brisbane grade seen but I do think there are a lot of young players at Norths who can go a long way as they have a great coaching group
Who have been the best three fast bowlers you have played against?
Ben Laughlin, the things this bloke can do with a cricket ball is amazing.
Ryan Harris, well we all know how good he was.
Luke Feldman from North Queensland days - the man was quick and moved the ball
Who has been the best 2 batsman you’ve played against?
As a young bowler coming through the Mackay Grade scene it was Luke Jackson. I learned a lot as a young bowler bowling to him as he had just come back to Mackay from Brisbane grade cricket
Next would be Brian May. In battles against South Queensland while playing for North Queensland he was a batsman everyone struggled to get out and it was very hard to make a plan to bowl to him
Who has been the best wicket keeper you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?
Chris Hartley and Ben Dunk
Who has been your funniest team mate?
Joe Burns he has a different sense of humour then most and must be because I’m a fast bowler, I find him funny
Who was your childhood hero?
Glenn McGrath
Who are the three sports people in the world you’d most like to meet?
Lebron James, Tiger Woods and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
What has been your most memorable moment in cricket?
Being selected to play for Queensland Country and playing 2 games for QLD 2ndXI after 2 years in Brisbane
Making my debut for Norths in Brisbane and getting my cap presented to me by Bulls batsman Clinton Perren was very special and I opened the bowling with James Hopes
What’s the best win you’ve been involved with?
Any North Queensland cricket win
Best coach you’ve been involved with?
Vic Williams and Joe Dawes without a doubt helped me so much coming from the country to the city and what I needed to do to play first grade
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Control the controllable (Vic Williams)
What are your cricketing ambitions?
Keep playing indoor cricket and enjoy playing competitive cricket with my mates
