UTS North Sydney Bears abroad - the battles of Manchester and London

UTS North Sydney District Cricket Club | June 26, 2025

While many Bears are in hibernation for the winter, four of our men’s players are in action in the UK, and playing against each other in Manchester and London. So who will bring home the bragging rights when we get back on the field in Sydney?

Tim Reynolds is doing the business at the aptly named Timperley, just outside Manchester. He opened his account with 116 off 90 a few days after getting off the plane and hasn’t really looked back, scoring 528 runs to date at an average of 37.7 and a highest score of 129 off 66 balls in a T20 against Stockport Georgians, with 12 fours and nine bombs. He’s also sent down 26 overs and taken four poles, which might surprise a few Bears faithfuls!

Meanwhile, a little further out of town, Jamieson Hedges is plying his trade at Lindow in the same league. Opening the bowling, he’s taken 24 wickets at 21.6 with best figures of 4/34, while also contributing with the bat, scoring 312 runs at 28.4 including a top score of 95*.

Tim’s Timperley side sits third in the ECB Cheshire Premier League, while Jamo’s Lindow are ninth. Tim also took the chocolates in the teams’ face-off with a six-wicket win, but perhaps neither Bear wanted to ruin the other’s record as Tim made 2 and Jamieson bowled nine wicketless overs and scored 6. At the time of writing, Tim and Jamieson are on the field together representing Australian Universities in a 50-over match and a T20 against Loughborough University.

In North West London, Mac Jenkins and Sol Balbi are also locked in battle in the Thames Valley Division 1. Representing Ickenham, Mac’s been enjoying a superb run of form with the bat, scoring three successive hundreds (including two in a weekend) and having amassed 682 runs at 75.8 in just 12 matches so far. Mac’s season highlight was 154* a couple of weeks back, leading a chase of 270 inside 41 overs… unfortunately against Sol’s Uxbridge, so bragging rights well and truly established there! Sol has bagged 12 wickets in the season to date, with best figures of 3/25.

Ickenham and Uxbridge sit 7th and 8th respectively on the ladder, separated by just 13 points – so plenty to play for!
