North Sydney's Clubpeople of the Year

At the Bears’ annual Presentation Night in April, Dylan Johnson was named as Young Clubperson of the Year, and Tim Reynolds and Chloe Blackwell as joint Clubpeople of the year.

Young Clubperson of the Year is an important award to acknowledge those members of the club under the age of 23 that show outstanding dedication to the club whether that be on the field or in an administrative capacity. The 2024/25 winner of this award is Dylan Johnson.

Dylan joined the club in 2021 playing Green Shield and up to Fourth Grade in his first season. Since then, Dylan has played in every grade bar First Grade and was part of the winning Poidevin Grey Shield side in 2023/24

.Dylan is a mature, thoughtful, reliable young man who is always willing to help out whilst staying under the radar. He will do whatever is required to help the team win and always finds a way to get involved either with bat, ball or in the field.

Dylan has recently been employed by North Sydney Council in the North Sydney Oval ground staff and it’s been a breath of fresh air to have a Bear in the ground staff crew. DJ has gone above and beyond what he’s paid for to help us get training wickets up, coordinate covers and generally help us get access to the best prepared grounds in Sydney.

Tim Reynolds

Tim may be paid to coach Green Shield and run our academies, but this season in particular he has contributed so much more. He’s always been one of the first to training on a Tuesday, taking the lead on setting up the nets. But what really set him apart this year is his contribution when out injured – from just before Christmas to the end of the season. Tim turned up every week even if he was on crutches, as soon as he was fit to help out, he was running drinks, sweeping the pitch at intervals, running warm-ups, and doing any other errand we needed – collecting ice, helping put up tables and set up the scorers’ room, the list goes on.

At our Presentation Night when the award was announced, club Secretary Sarah Berman said: “I first met Tim as a talented 17 year-old trying to find his way in First Grade, and I am very proud of the leader within the club that he has become.”

Chloe Blackwell

On the pitch, Chloe is the definition of a team player. She plays Third Grade for the love of the game, enjoyment of competition and being part of a team. She rarely bowls and often doesn’t get a chance to bat (though on one amazing occasion last season, she made a 21-ball duck to ensure Kayla Robson scored the runs we needed to win the game in a big last-wicket partnership). But she never complains and always wants the best for the club and the team. Chloe co-managed the team with her husband John who also scored, brought their dog Stevie as the team mascot, and helped Second Grade on several occasions when they were a player short.

Away from matchday, Chloe’s contribution has been immense. She joined our Management Committee this year and has contributed across the board including in running a culture and values session, but in particular immediately took ownership of an important strategic matter for the club where she put her legal skills to great use and gave a superb account of the club. We are devastated that Chloe, John and Stevie will be moving to Perth later in the winter but wish them all the best for their future in the west, and are sure there will be a lot of cricket involved.
