The season marked a significant milestone for the club, with the First Grade side finishing fourth—its strongest result in 25 years and a clear indication of renewed competitiveness at the top level.
A notable highlight was the arrival of international cricketer Keith Miller. Although his appearances were limited to just two matches due to ongoing first-class and Test commitments, his presence brought invaluable experience and prestige to the side.
The season also saw the emergence of Jimmy Burke into the senior ranks. Joining the team full-time after completing his schooling in December, Burke made an immediate and profound impact. He enjoyed an exceptional debut season, averaging 80 with the bat while also claiming the club’s bowling average award—an outstanding all-round achievement that foreshadowed his future success at Test level.
Consistency across the squad was further reflected in the individual honours. E. Robinson led the batting aggregate with 551 runs, providing a reliable foundation at the crease, while N. Sutherland topped the bowling aggregate, spearheading the attack throughout the campaign.
Leadership evolved over the course of the season, with B. Adrian captaining the side in the early rounds before Sutherland assumed the role, guiding the team through the latter stages of a highly successful campaign.
