The 1999/2000 season stands as a defining chapter in the club’s history, marking a return to the summit as Club Champions for the first time since the 1988/89 season.
Under the Presidency of Ron Holmes, this achievement represented the club’s third Club Championship title overall and a testament to the strength and depth across all grades.
Guided by club coach Barry Knight, the club delivered an outstandingly consistent campaign, leading from start to finish. The club’s dominance was highlighted by the First Grade side securing the minor premiership, setting the tone for success throughout the competition.
Leadership across the grades played a crucial role in this achievement. Craig Glassock captained the First Grade team with distinction, while Rob Regent and David Ford shared responsibilities in Second Grade.
Warren Evans led Third Grade, Russell Pearce took charge of Fourth Grade, and Rudy Burattini captained Fifth Grade.
The club’s future was also in strong hands, with Tim Cruickshank leading the Poidevin-Gray side and Cameron Merchant captaining the Green Shield team.
The club’s depth was further demonstrated with four out of five senior grades progressing to the semi-finals. Fifth Grade advanced to the grand final, capping off a strong season, though they were ultimately unable to secure the premiership.
Overall, the 1999/2000 season remains a proud milestone, reflecting exceptional leadership, sustained performance, and a unified club effort that restored the club to championship glory.
It also proved to be a stepping stone to the success of the next 2 decades.
