Skippered by Max Burgess, Manly’s 4th Grade side enjoyed an outstanding 2011/12 season, ultimately falling to Sutherland District Cricket Club in a hard-fought grand final during a year that culminated in a Club Championship for Manly.
Burgess himself produced a remarkable season with the bat, amassing nearly 600 runs. He was well supported by his brother Ed Burgess and Tom Kaye, both of whom also enjoyed excellent seasons with the bat.
With the ball, the leading wicket-takers were emerging talents Sam Gainsford and Arshdeep Virdi, each claiming more than 20 wickets across the campaign. They were strongly supported by the experienced pairing of Warren Evans and Michael Lindsay, who both delivered consistently solid performances throughout the season.
The season also marked the emergence of future first-class cricketer Mickey Edwards, who captured 14 wickets in 4th Grade during the campaign.
