Manly Warringah District Cricket Club | February 28, 2026

In the early 1990s, Australian cricket witnessed the rise of a consistent and highly effective domestic performer in Gavin Robertson. Though his time at the elite level was relatively brief, his impact across three standout seasons firmly etched his name into the fabric of Australian domestic cricket.
Robertson’s three years at Manly came across the 1992/93, 1993/94, and 1994/95 seasons. During this three-season stretch, he claimed an impressive 88 wickets at an average of just 20 — a return that placed him among the most reliable bowlers in the grade circuit at the time. His ability to apply pressure, maintain discipline, and consistently break partnerships made him a key figure in Manly’s 1st grade bowling attack.
Robertson went on to represent Australia in four Test matches and 13 One Day Internationals. While his international appearances were limited, they reflected the depth of competition in Australian cricket during that era — a period often regarded as one of the most competitive in the sport’s history.
Across his broader career, Robertson played 58 first-class matches and 64 List A games. These numbers highlight not just his longevity at the domestic level, but also his versatility across formats. He demonstrated the adaptability required to succeed in both the longer form of the game and the one-day format, which was rapidly growing in prominence during the 1990s.
Team success was another defining feature of Robertson’s career. He was part of a squad that secured a Sheffield Shield title and claimed Mercantile Mutual Cup victories, contributing to one of the stronger domestic periods for his side.
