Jarrod Walter - Green Shield record leads to senior success

Manly Warringah District Cricket Club | December 29, 2025

Jarrod Walter’s 2005/06 Green Shield season ranks among the most outstanding performances in recent memory. He set a then club record with 445 runs, a benchmark later surpassed by Joel Davies, who amassed 501 runs in the 2018/19 season.

Jarrod’s tally included two centuries—an unbeaten 103 against Gordon (pictured) and 122 against Hawkesbury—as the team advanced to the grand final that year.

That Green Shield side, in which Jarrod was the standout performer, featured several players who would go on to enjoy successful grade cricket careers at Manly. Ed Burgess, Adam Gummer, Matt Mee, Logan Weston, Nick McCallum Toomey, and Javed Badyari all progressed to higher grade cricket within the club.

All the players thrived under the brilliant coaching team of former test cricketer and Manly legend Peter Phillpott and current Director of Cricket David Gainsford.

A left-handed batter and part-time left-arm orthodox spinner, Jarrod became a highly respected and much-loved figure at the Manly Cricket Club over many seasons. A natural leader, he was appointed club captain for the 2014/15 season, a role he fulfilled with distinction.

He played a significant part in multiple club championship successes and was instrumental as a senior player in the 2017/18 Fourth Grade premiership, captained by his former Green Shield teammate Adam Gummer.

Jarrod concluded his playing career with 2,484 runs and a valuable contribution of 18 wickets, leaving a lasting legacy of leadership, consistency, and commitment to the club.

Sorry to let the air out of your balloon, but The winner of the AW Green Shield for the 2005/06 season was Campbelltown-Camden. They also won the competition in the subsequent 2006/07 season. Making it 3 years in a row that they won the Green Shield Trophy, just saying

Hi Slim, at no stage in the story about Jarrod's run scoring in the 2005-06 Green Shield was there a suggestion Manly Warringah won the Green Shield in that season.
