Manly Warringah District Cricket Club | December 09, 2025

Gavin Fletcher’s contribution to the club spans both eras of success and the development of future champions. Across a distinguished career from 1979 to 1994, Fletcher became one of the club’s most reliable and dangerous fast bowlers, collecting an exceptional 407 wickets at an average of 18. His impact was felt not only in his performances, but in the standards he helped set for those who followed.
Fletcher was a key member of the famed 1988–89 First Grade Premiership team, a side remembered for its balance, resilience, and competitiveness. That season also saw the club secure the Club Championship, and Fletcher’s presence in the attack played a significant role in that success.
Beyond his playing career, Fletcher’s legacy grew through his ability to mentor and mould the next generation of fast bowlers. He provided guidance and technical insight to emerging talents such as David Gainsford and Shawn Bradstreet, both of whom went on to become leading bowlers for the club in their own right. His influence as a mentor helped shape the club’s fast-bowling culture for decades.
Fletcher later returned to serve on the coaching staff from 2014 to 2018, a period marked by tremendous success, including premierships and sustained club-wide excellence. His experience, attention to detail, and deep understanding of the club’s values made him an invaluable part of the coaching team.
Across playing, mentoring, and coaching roles, Gavin Fletcher has been a cornerstone of the club’s fabric. His achievements on the field and his influence off it place him among the most respected figures in the club’s long history — a fast bowler of exceptional skill and a mentor who helped drive eras of success
