Ben King's Outstanding 2005-06 Season: A Clubman and a Class Performer

Manly Warringah District Cricket Club | December 09, 2025

The 2005–06 season stands as one of the most memorable in Ben King’s cricketing journey, defined not only by his on-field excellence but also by his remarkable contribution to the club’s culture. Fittingly recognised as Clubman of the Year for his incredible work with the club website and media, King delivered a campaign that blended leadership, consistency, and sheer batting brilliance.

Across 16 innings, King amassed a superb 756 runs at an average of 50, underscoring both his reliability and his ability to dominate attacks. His season included three centuries and a near-miss 90, each innings reinforcing his reputation as one of the club’s most dependable top-order batsmen.

King’s run of form was relentless through the heart of the season. A composed 112 in Round 7 against Penrith showcased his ability to build an innings and control a match. He followed this with a commanding 124 in Round 8 versus Eastern Suburbs, a performance that underlined his growing authority at the crease. Another milestone arrived in Round 12, when he produced a polished 100 against Hawkesbury, an effort captured in a now well-known set of photos that reflect both the significance of the innings and the confidence with which he played.

His consistency continued late into the season, falling just short of another century with a determined 93 against Campbelltown in Round 15, further cementing his value as a cornerstone of the batting lineup.

Beyond the numbers, Ben King’s 2005–06 campaign was defined by his team-first attitude and his unwavering commitment to the club’s success. His combination of performance and character made him a deserving Clubman of the Year, and his season remains a benchmark for excellence both on and off the field.
