Manly Warringah District Cricket Club | September 07, 2025

During the 2002/03 season, left-arm orthodox spinner Pete Jacka - widely regarded as one of the most genuine and well-respected individuals to represent the Manly club - achieved the extraordinary feat of progressing from 5th Grade to 1st Grade within a single season.
Jacka began the season in 5th Grade, making an immediate impact with figures of 4/40 in Round 1, which earned him a swift promotion to 4th Grade. Over the following rounds, he continued to impress, claiming 11 wickets, highlighted by an outstanding 5/62 in Round 8.
After just one match in 3rd Grade, Jacka was elevated to 2nd Grade, where he delivered consistent performances, including 3/38 in Round 10 and 2/28 in Round 11.
His consistent form led to a call-up to the 1st Grade squad in Round 13, where he made his debut against Gordon at Killara Oval. Jacka proved he belonged at the top level, taking 2/11 from 3.2 overs and contributing a crucial run out in the field.
He finished the season with 32 wickets at an impressive average of 19.50, demonstrating that with hard work, resilience, and determination, anything is possible. Jacka’s journey is a testament to the idea that it’s not where you start the season that matters - but where you finish.
