Penrith Metro Cup Premiers 2015-16
Penrith Cricket Club | May 10, 2026

After finishing as Premiers in the 2014/15 season, the goal again for the baby faced colts was to once again take it out & make it back to back premierships for the mighty cats!
With a lot of new faces making their debuts for the club and the average age being only 16, to the boy’s credit, they held their own!
Not once throughout the season did they take a backwards step, self-doubt or shy away from a challenge presented to them, and in combining all of this, the end result was only ever going to be one, PREMIERS!
Finishing the regular season with only the one loss, the boys, newly made men, finished a massive 28 points clear at the top the table, and boy oh boy did the view look good from the top!

Heading into the much anticipated semi-final clash against UNSW Gold, the theme of the week was to not become complacent. In saying this and setting our own targets, we undoubtingly saved our most devastating batting display for this game, pilling on a massive 512 runs.
The main stayers of the innings, Brock Balgowan (196) & Kev Pathirane (100) who well and above proved himself in the second half of the season at the top of the order, combined for a 234 second wicket stand, ultimately setting up the game for the cats. Knowing we still needed to go out and do the second half of the job, we couldn’t have asked for a better start or had a script wrote any different, making a run out on the very first ball of their innings!
Having them reeling at 5/8, our bowling display was a class above with Ryan Fletcher (2/21) & Ryan Gregory (5/37) a force to be reckoned with. With a few pesky tail enders hanging around, we eventually rolled them all out for 83, with Ned Pearson – Burke finishing the job off (2/13).
With Grand finals for some being far and few in between, it was a chance for the team to relish this opportunity and take it with both hands!
Winning the toss and electing to bat first once again against a gallant Randwick Petersham Gold outfit, it wasn’t the mammoth total in which we had accumulated the previous week, but our total of 224 was one in which we had easily defended right throughout the season.
The leaders of the innings were Nick Adams (62), Kieran Shone (48), Jake Edgecumbe (47) and Josh Heins with a more then handy (29).
With the standard set right throughout the season, our bowlers knew their areas and exactly what they had to do, and that they did! Ryan Fletcher was relentless once again upfront taking 3/40, proving he was well and truly the leader of the “Cats cartel”.
With needing another bowler to step up to the plate, Ned Pearson-Burke took it upon himself taking a man of the match winning 5/17! Eventually having them all out for 119, RP’s wanted one last crack at the Cats, to no avail. They finally
folded with the Cats 1/103, Kieran Shone again amongst the runs with another 40, and Kevin Pathirane notching up 51 not out.
The mighty cats were once again PREMIERS!!
Throughout the season there were a number of individual highlights that illustrated the strength and talent of this team!
Brock Balgowan Rnd 4 (106), Aidan Williams Rnd 6, (125*), Sam Grant Rnd 7 (7/33), Brendan Speechley Rnd 10 (5/11), Nick Adams Rnd 12 (111), Ryan Fletcher Rnd 13 (6/30), Jake Edgecumbe Rnd 14&15 (5/36 & 5/48).
Plenty of new talent had emerged throughout the season within each and every game, with the likes of Ryan Gregory, Ben Crouch, Jack Crouch, Ned Pearson-Burke, Sam Grant, Kevin Pathirane & Kieran Shone.
Each of the blokes who played within the Colts team throughout the year has certainly put their hand up to be playing higher grades for the next season!
Nick Adams also captained the team in my absence and done a fantastic job! It was a pleasure to be able to captain such an outstanding bunch of blokes!
