Ken joined the club in the season of 1987/88 from Fairfield-Liverpool. In his first season, he batted at 7 while also contributing with his more than handy left arm 'chinamans'. Over the season, Ken scored 194 runs at 24.25 with a highest score of 47, while he claimed 23 wickets at 27.09, including 3 five-wicket hauls with a best of 5/41 against Bankstown.
The season of 1988/89 saw Ken spend time across both 1st and 2nd grade. Across both grades, he would total 197 runs at 16.42 and 31 wickets at 24.42, including 6/69 in First Grade against St George in the first round of the season.
His final season with the club would be season 1989/90, once again spending time across the top two grades but predominantly in 2s. Amassing 390 runs for the season, including 94 in the 2nd grade. While 14 wickets at 30.36, including 6/36 in 2s. In a season where captain Ron Halse mentioned that "KG was underutilised with the ball as a result of the gaming situation".
Over his time at Penrith, Gentles would end up with 781 runs @ 21.69, 18 catches and 68 wickets, including 5 x 5 wicket hauls with a best bowling of 6/69. As mentioned by his captains, Ken at his best was unplayable and made many batsmen look silly.
