Gordon District Cricket Club | June 03, 2026

Tenure: 2008 – 2020
Cameron Eccles enjoyed a distinguished 12-season career with the Stags, establishing himself as a foundational top-order batsman and a widely respected clubman. Joining the club's Academy as an 18-year-old, Eccles steadily rose through the ranks to become a mainstay of Gordon's First Grade side. He retired from Grade cricket at the conclusion of the 2019/20 season, leaving an indelible mark on the club's history books and culture.
Eccles' reliability at the top of the order earned him a prominent spot among the club's all-time greats. In First Grade cricket alone, Cam broke into the elite tier of batsmen to clear the 3,000-run milestone.
By the end of his tenure, his official First Grade records stood at:
- Innings: 161
- Runs: 4,377
- Batting Average: 27.19
- All-Time Club Ranking: Ranked 14th in Gordon's history for the most career runs scored in First Grade, sitting just ahead of Australian Test wicketkeeping legend Brian Taber (4,368 runs).
Before securing his permanent role in the top flight, Eccles proved his mettle in the lower grades. He holds the Second Grade record for the highest batting aggregate in a single season, accumulating 734 runs during his ascent through the ranks.
Cam was highly regarded for his leadership qualities and contribution to club culture. He frequently captained various grade sides, including anchoring the top order during tough transition periods. His experience was regularly relied upon to guide younger academy players making their transition into senior cricket.
Cam retired in May 2020 alongside fellow stalwarts Steve Colley and Harry Evans. His final season coincided with Gordon winning the NSW Premier Cricket "Spirit of Cricket" award, a testament to the culture of sportsmanship and integrity that he championed throughout his 12 years.
Upon his retirement, the club recognized him not only as an elite opening batsman who willingly shared his technical batting expertise, but as "one of the great blokes to play at Gordon" who left a legacy of support and mentorship.
