Centuries on Debut for Gordon District Cricket Club

Gordon District Cricket Club | May 07, 2026

635 men have played first grade for Gordon since the club formed in 1905. Of those, only 6 have scored a century in their first game.

These are those players.

Charlie Kelleway (pictured) was a fine player who played 26 Tests between 1910 and 1928. His 1st Grade average for Gordon was 45.88, second only to Charlie Macartney in Gordon’s leading run scorers. He initially played for Glebe and then Gordon for another 12 seasons in between 1st Class commitments. He scored 126 against Cumberland at Parramatta Oval (18/11/1922) in his first game for the club.

Cyril Solomon played for Petersham, Marrickville and Waverley before coming to Gordon. He played for the club from 1941-45, scoring 2258 runs at 34.74 with 4 centuries, including 102 against Mosman in his first game (29/9/1941). He played 13 games for NSW, averaging 32.79.

Sid Barnes’ final two seasons of a 21 year Grade career were at Gordon. In his first game for the club, he scored 145 against Randwick (29/9/1951). At the end of his Grade career he had amassed 6582 runs, with 24 centuries at an average of 62.09 – an exceptional performance! He is one of very few who averaged over 50 in First Grade, First Class and Test cricket.

Frank (Sonny) De Carvalho came to Gordon from Sydney University and Paddington. He only played four 1st Grade games for the Club. In his first (7-14/2/1953), he carried his bat for 157* against Mosman.

Neil Harvey moved from Melbourne to Sydney and began playing in the Sydney Grade competition in the 1958-59 season. In his first game with the club (27/9/1958-4/10/1958) he scored 116 against Balmain. The following four seasons with the Club saw him only playing spasmodically due to his Shield and Test program. He finished his career at Northern District.

Lloyd Wilson played for North Sydney, Glebe and Sydney before coming to Gordon in the 1967/68 season. He scored 111 against Northern District in his first game (30/9/1967) and finished his 1st Grade career with 3294 runs.
