Pocket Profile: Trystan Kennedy - Gordon District Cricket Club

Trystan Kennedy made his first-grade debut for Gordon District Cricket Club during the 2022-23 season and is the proud owner of first grade cap number 614.

Trystan has been selected in the NSW Under 19 metropolitan squad and is looking forward to capitalising on an off season in the United Kingdom and scoring big runs in 2023-24.

Top order batsmen, part time off spin

What do you enjoy most about playing cricket?

I enjoy meeting new people in various teams. I also enjoying learning and sometimes doing well.

What’s been your most memorable moment in cricket so far?

Definitely making my 1st grade debut for Gordon last season. 

Who’s your favourite all-time cricketer?

AB de Villiers 

Who is the fastest bowler you’ve played against?

Zaman Khan from Pakistan bowled heat in a county 2s game, very unique action which made it feel 10x quicker

Who is the best spinner you’ve played against?

Raf Macmillan from St George. I grew up playing against Raf and he’s come a long way, currently playing for Aus 19s and doing really well. 

Who played the best innings you’ve seen firsthand playing with or against?

One of my first games in 1st grade for Gordon we played St George and I watched Blake Nikatris ton up, he smoked them everywhere

Who is the best wicket keeper you’ve had the good fortune to play with?

James Newton is a gun, he’s our current 1s keeper for the Gordon Stags

Who are the two players you’ve come to admire most in your club in terms of skills and competitive spirit?

For skills it would have to be Axel Cahlin, one of the best batters I’ve trained and played with. For competitive spirit I’d say Connor Cook or Quincy Titterton

What are the two attributes you like to see in a captain and leader?

Being open to opinions from others and confidence in their captaincy and also their players

Which singer/band would you like to see perform live?

Fred again, Lil Yachty and lil baby 

Who’s the king of selfies at your club?

Connor Cook loves a lost property photo after trainings. 

Who’s been the biggest influence on your career so far?

Brendan Lyon my coach and my parents 

Where do you find inspiration that gets you through challenging times?

I’m usually someone who gets through challenges on my own when it comes to my cricket, however I have a huge amount of people including family, friends and coaches who I chat to, and they help by reassuring me 

Who are the three people in the world you’d love to meet and talk to?

Rodger Federer, AB de Villiers, Elon Musk

What do you like to do to relax outside cricket?

Go out on the boat, fish, play golf and see mates.

What do you do for work or University?

Currently doing part time work coaching at Knox Grammar, Gordon juniors and private coaching. Haven’t started University as I went to England for a season but looking to start my course of sports science at UTS next year

What are your goals for the 2023/24 season?

Play as much 1st grade as I can and try play finals cricket for both PGs and 1st grade. I am also aiming to go to u19 nationals with NSW. 

Can we ask, what would it mean to you to play first class cricket and for your country?

It would mean everything to represent either of the two. To make my friends and family proud and my coaches who have had a huge impact on me as a player and person.
