The St George Tradition Continues

St George Cricket Club | October 28, 2025

Since the early 1980s St George District Cricket Club have hosted an Annual Dinner with leading cricketers as the keynote speaker. From Richie Benaud to Arthur Morris and Barry Richards attendees have been entertained with reflections, reminiscences and opinions. In the last four years Greg Chappell, Mike Hussey, Doug Walters and Mark Taylor have maintained the enviable tradition.

On Wednesday 12 November, at Club Central Hurstville, Simon Katich will undoubtedly maintain the high standards established over nearly five decades, as he addresses a crowd that is anticipated to exceed 250 guests. The Club’s players will be in attendance as well as sponsors, past players and supporters.

Simon Katich forged a career built on a foundation of skill and hard work. The challenges he faced to return to the Australian side after being dropped are well documented. His leadership, both tactically and with the bat, led NSW to the Sheffield Shield in 2007/08. His season aggregate is still the NSW record.

The second stage of his international career saw him move to opening the batting where he became the rock on which Australia built its innings. Although his style was unorthodox it proved to be extremely effective and Australian cricket was the beneficiary.

On retirement from playing Katich has established himself as a highly regarded coach and commentator. His opinions are considered, respected and sought. There’s no doubt attendees on the 12th of November will be entertained and enlightened.

Tickets at a very reasonable $135 for dinner and refreshments at the St George DCC Annual Dinner can be obtained by emailing stgdcc@bigpond.com.
