The St George DCC 2024-25 First XI

At the end of each season a panel comes together to judge the best achievements / milestones for the season. These may be individual, combined or even team performances. Below is the First XI for the 2024-25 season and as you will see there were some mighty fine performances that left us feeling quite proud as supporters and members of The Saints.
1. KSC T20 Premiership / Niko Century
With The Saints at 3-36 chasing an imposing total of 166 many thought the KSC T20 trophy was Fairfield’s until Blake Nikitaras played one of the greatest Premier Cricket T20 innings of all time. His sublime 107* from just 59 balls brought home the clubs 2nd T20 premiership.
2. Making The Big Dance x 3
It’s a good measure when your teams are making finals and to have 3-5’s all making the Grand Final was an outstanding achievement by the players and club. Add the Metro Cup Minor Premiership to the mix and it’s safe to say our depth is promising. Sadly, rain meant that we went without any silverware but we’ll be hungrier in 2025-26.
3. Josh Moors Goes Nuts with Bat and Ball.
Reigniting his passion for the game with a year of 3’s Josh tore the place apart with 795 runs and 39 wickets which included the Prelim. Final against Manly where he scored 155 (153) and took 7-51, both the best grade batting and bowling figures for the season. Not surprisingly he took out the Kerry O’Keeffe Medal amongst a heap of other awards.
4. Blake Nikitaris Scores Runs for Fun
Blake Nikitaras became just the 10th Saint to pass 1000 runs in a 1st Grade season and if it wasn’t for some representative clashes he would have given the record a nudge. He finished with 1198 runs which included 4 centuries and hours of viewing pleasure to those who got to see him ply his trade.
5. Peter Francis Wickets and Pickets
This young guy has been building for a number of years but the 23-24 back injury could have been a momentum stopper. Not for Peter who simply went next level with bat and ball pushing his name forward as one of the Premier Allrounders in NSW with a whopping 61 wickets and 371 quality runs.
6. Partners in Crime
It was a year for some tremendous partnerships including a 1st Grade record. Here’s our top 8

7. Llewellyn’s lucky 9
Lewellyn Wylie might just be one of the only cricketers who likes a trip out to Bensons Lane! That is after he had a hand in an unbelievable 9 out of the 10 dismissals in their 5th Grade T20 against Hawkesbury. 4 Catches, 2 Stumpings, 1 direct hit Run Out and 2 Run Out assists. Just wow!
8. Byron’s Big Haul
It’s a rarity to see 6 or 7 wicket hauls these days especially with more limited overs cricket played. Byron Whitbread, playing in our Metro’s took 8-32 from his 10 overs in a one dayer with his cheeky leg spinners. This is an almighty achievement for a lad who was in Green Shield. Also deserving mention was Will Taylor with a rare T20 5 wicket haul in PG’s. Limited Overs magic with the ball!
9. Master Blasters
Aside from Blake Nikitaras’ T20 Final heroics there were a couple of other cyclonic tons achieved that you won’t be surprised who they were achieved by. In front of a healthy crowd on our “Juniors Day” Ed Pollock got stuck in a peeled off an exhilarating 119 from just off just 98 balls. Then there was one of Josh Moors 4 centuries scored from just 43 balls. He finished with 126 off just 59 balls which included 9 x 4’s and 11 x 6’s.
10. Thirds Put Together Back to Back 400’s
Speaking of big runs the lads in 3’s pieced together scores 419 and then 406. To make this even more impressive these hefty tallies were achieved in the Preliminary Final against Manly and the Semi Final against UNSW. Unfortunately, due to rain they were unable to try for a Three-peat.
11. TVT Gloves a Half Century of Dismissals
Tom Vane Tempest like a couple of his 1st Grade contemporaries passed a huge milestone for the season when he finished with 54 dismissals. In the modern era this has only been achieved 3 other times and it is only the 2nd time a 1st grade keeper has snared over 50 catches. You only have to be around Hurstville Oval recently to see how his keeping has gone from strength to strength.
