Vale Kevin Parmenter - First Grade Player No.230
St George Cricket Club | July 07, 2025

We regret to announce the passing of St George DCC first grade player number 230 – Kevin Parmenter.
Kevin played his Junior cricket with Hurstville Sports and commenced his grade career with St George starting in 4th Grade in the season of 1967-68. After some success including his first grade century (102 no) Kevin earned a promotion into 3rd Grade.
The following season was a big one for Kevin. He played 4th, 3rd and 2nd Grades as well as 1 game in Poidevin Gray Shield (U21’s). He scored centuries in 4th Grade (102) and 3rd Grade (103 no) and in 3 innings in 2nd Grade finished with 68 at 68. All up in all Grades in 1968-69 Kevin scored 615 runs @ 43.92 and also took 13 wickets.
After such a good season Kevin spent most of the 69-70 season in 2nd grade scoring 459 runs at 38.95 with a top score of 95* and was rewarded with a number of 1st grade appearances. In the following seasons Kevin mainly played 2nd Grade with some 1st Grade appearances.
It was interesting to note that between the seasons of 73-74 and 77-78 Kevin played no first grade but in 78-79 he seemingly pushed his way back in to 1st grade after some great success in 2nd Grade including his best St George score of 155. He was once again promoted to 1st Grade and finished with 342 runs @ 28.50 and a top score of 80. All up between 1st and 2nd Grade in 78-79, Kevin finished with 657 runs @ 34.57.
Kevin would only play one more full season for the club before pulling up stumps on his St George career in the season of 1980-81. By this time he had amassed 4884 runs but sneaks over the 5000 mark when his 320 Poidevin Gray runs are included. Wickets wise he finished with 142 with a further 28 Poidevin Gray scalps. 170 wickets all up at 17.43. Certainly, a career to be proud of.
Outside of cricket Kevin was a successful surveyor.
More importantly he was a great family man and human off the field. Kevin maintained his friendships with many of his teammates and was a regular feature at club events and past players days as well as regular informal gatherings with former teammates over many years.
The club extends its sympathies to Kevin’s wife of 51 years, Julie, and their two wonderful daughters Sallee and Stef and the extended Parmenter family.
Kevin Parmenter’s funeral will be held on Tuesday the 8th of July at 10am at Gymea Baptist Church.
There will be a wake afterwards at Gymea Bowling Club to remember and celebrating his life.
