Season 2024-25 St George DCC Award Winners

Here are the St George DCC award winners for what was a season that included the KSC T20 Premiership and 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade all making Grand Finals.

Kerry O’Keeffe Medal – Josh Moors

Life Member and former international Kerry O’Keeffe has given his name to this Award. Based on a points system it recognises the St George DCC Player of the Year, being the best performed player in the Club across all grades.

In 3rd Grade, Josh excelled in the competition with his outstanding performance in both batting and bowling. His consistent contributions allowed him to gather points steadily, ultimately earning him the Medal.

F M Cush OBE Memorial Award – Paul Francis

This award honours the memory of our former illustrious President and Secretary. It is given to the person deemed by the Committee to have made an outstanding contribution to the Club, either on or off the field, sufficient to earn the title of ‘Çlub-person of the Year’.

Paul maintained his position as Co-Club Captain, demonstrating leadership both on and off the field. He played a vital role in the Communications team, overseeing the distribution of information via social media.

A L Blackshaw Memorial Award – Tom Forrester

Named in honour of the man who inspired the foundation of our Club, then served in many capacities for nearly seventy years, this award is presented to the most improved Under 21 player.

After starting the season in 3rd Grade, Tom advanced to make his 1st Grade debut, showcasing his talent for scoring runs at the top of the order. This award is a well-deserved recognition of his dedication and commitment to improvement both before and during the season.

E W Adams CBE Memorial Award – Josh Moors

This award is in honour of Ted Adams, former long-term Treasurer and President of the Club. It is presented to the player who takes the most wickets in an innings.

In the Qualifying Final against Manly, Josh achieved impressive figures of 7/51. This performance was the pinnacle of a season in which he took a total of 39 wickets in 3rd Grade.

D G Bradman AC Memorial Award – Josh Moors

Inaugurated the 2023/24 season, the Award recognises Sir Donald Bradman’s feat in establishing the Club’s record highest score. It is presented to the player who produces the highest innings.

In the 3^rd Grade Qualifying Final against Manly, Josh opened the batting and delivered a powerful performance, scoring a rapid 155 that laid the foundation for a decisive victory.

David Paull Memorial Award – Mitch Gray

This award, donated to honour the memory of a great Clubman and friend, is given to a senior player deemed to have contributed most to the performance of the Club during the season.

Mitch remained in his role as 2^nd Grade captain, showcasing exceptional leadership to a team that faced challenges due to player retirements, transfers, and significant injuries. He led by example with his batting and maintained a positive attitude while encouraging and nurturing a group of young and inexperienced players, some of whom made their 1st Grade debuts.

Bruce Mulcahy Memorial Award – Mitch Gray

The award perpetuates the memory of the late Bruce Mulcahy and is given to the outstanding batsman in 2^nd Grade.

With 529 runs at an average of 35.27, 2nd Grade Captain Mitch led by example. His composed demeanour and skill in managing the innings provided invaluable lessons for his teammates.

Richard Stokes OAM Wicket keeping Award – Tom Vane-Tempest

This award is donated in perpetuity by Richard Stokes for wicketkeeping excellence. It is open to ‘keepers’ in all grades.

With 54 dismissals, Tom enjoyed another exceptional season behind the stumps, earning this award once again. His glovework remained of the highest quality, and his enthusiasm ensured that the team's fielding standards were upheld.

Adam Sweetnam Memorial Award – Will Taylor

This award was proposed by the Sweetnam family in memory of their son, Adam, who lost his life whilst a playing member of the Club. As Adam was a promising young player, it is fitting that the award goes to the Under 21 Poidevin Gray Shield Player of the Year.

Will lead the bowling attack with consistently impressive performances. During a season in which he made his 1st Grade debut, he stood out for his eagerness to listen and improve, and we look forward to seeing his continued success.

L B (Bruce) Blackshaw Award – Ronan O’Neill

This award recognises Bruce Blackshaw, a long term Club supporter and son of former President and Patron A L Blackshaw. It is presented to the A W Green Shield Under 16 player who by his general demeanour and sportsmanship, has made a contribution to the standing of the Club in the competition.

Ronan was a diligent and dedicated member of the team, contributing effectively with both bat and ball. His leadership qualities were acknowledged when he stepped into the captaincy role, which he handled with great confidence.
