St George First Grade Player No.242 - Wayne Turnbull.
A true Club Legend as well as a Life Member. Wayne scored 2335 runs in 1st Grade with a top score of 103. He also scored 4575 runs in 2nds (5th all time highest) with a highest score of 204* and 7330 runs (11th all time highest) in all grades. He captained 2nd Grade to an astonishing 6 Finals which they won three in a row between 1986-87 to 1988-89.
After finishing his playing days with the Saints in 1989 he spent a number of years as Coach of Wests in Wollongong. He then returned to St George as Club Coach where he helped the club to a number of Club Championships. He is a Level III accredited coach. Wayne has also spent time on the Management Committee of the club over the years.
Wayne also excelled at Baseball and Squash where he represented NSW. He represented NSW at Primary Schools (1966-67) and Under 19's (1974-75) in cricket as well.
Wayne also spent time playing professionally in Northern England in the Bradford League. He also coached the young professionals at Lords in 1980.
Wayne suffered a few nasty injuries during his playing days and had a couple of stints in hospital after a nasty blow to the head from Mark Clues as well as a collapsed lung after being hit by Darby Quoyle.
Wayne's only son Michael also played a number of seasons with the club.
