100 Moments in 100 Years of St George First Grade - 2011/12 - 2021/22
St George Cricket Club | April 24, 2025
One of our clubs great historians, Nathan Anderson helped us celebrate our Centenary of First Grade a few years back by compiling some of the clubs and its players greatest achievements by the decade. Here are some of the highlights between seasons 2011-12 and 2021-22.
1. Greg Hunt records the second highest individual innings in St George DCC first grade, scoring 219 against Hawkesbury. He overtakes Brian Booth and is second only to Bradman. (2011-12)
2. Trent Copeland bowls the club to their seventeenth and most recent Premiership success in the Belvidere Cup. Trailing by 47 on the first innings, Copeland takes 7 for 43 in the second innings to dismiss Sutherland for 88. McCabe (51*) and Patterson (58*) score the necessary runs required to record a 9 wicket victory. Copeland is named player of the match. (2012-13)
3. Missing some big name players, a young St George side take on a strong Manly side in the conference final of the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup on a Tuesday night at Manly Oval. An “unbelievable” 80* off 44 balls by Chris MacDougal helps to seal a famous victory by 23 runs. (2014-2015)
4. St George wins the inaugural Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup, in a dominant display against Sydney University. A 110 run opening partnership between Stewart McCabe and Steven Cazzulino helps the club to 173 runs before restricting the opposition to 129. (2014-15)
5. Damian Bourke and Ashton May put together a 370 run partnership for the 4th wicket against Sydney. It is the highest recorded partnership in club history. May breaks the record which he set six seasons earlier, scoring a double century (203) once again. (2015-16)
6. Chasing 342 for victory, Nathan Ellis joins wicketkeeper Jonathan Rose at 7 for 190 to combine for an eighth wicket partnership of 136 against Fairfield-Liverpool. After Ellis is dismissed for 71, another wicket falls on the following delivery. Tailender Eric Denhartog (10 off 9 balls) combines with Rose (104*) to score the 17 runs required for a famous victory. (2016-17)
7. Kurtis Patterson becomes the 15th player to represent Australia whilst playing for St George DCC. After scoring 30 on debut and taking a diving, one-handed catch in gully, Patterson scored an unbeaten century (114*) to become the first St George batsman since Brian Booth to score a century for Australia. Booth was in attendance to witness the innings in Canberra against Sri Lanka. (2018-19)
8. St George record a famous victory against North Sydney off the back of a remarkable double century from Andrew Walsh. Coming to the crease with the score at 6 for 52, chasing 355, Walsh scored 208 from 209 deliveries, breaking the all-time Sydney Grade cricket score for a number 8 batsman. A boundary from number 11 Tom McKenzie on the final ball of the day sealed an unfathomable victory. (2020-21)
9. Chasing 240 for victory against Parramatta, St George chases down the total in 29.4 overs with 11 sixes and 17 fours being hit to achieve a bonus point victory and reach the semi-finals. Kaleb Phillips (77 off 59) and wicketkeeper Tom Vane Tempest (50 off 35) play a large role in the result. (2020-21)
10. Blake Nikitaris becomes the 50th St George DCC player to represent New South Wales. He scores 44 and 56 on debut in a defeat to South Australia. (2021-22)
