BWCUCC set the pace as the OEM Audio One Day Premiership gathers momentum

Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club | December 31, 2025

The OEM Audio One Day Premiership is up and running, and Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club have wasted no time asserting itself as a major force once again. As the club looks to go one better than last year's Grand Final loss to Lancaster Park.

Round One delivered instant drama at Burnside Park, where BWCUCC edged Saint Albans in a rain-affected contest to retain the Bock Sharp Trophy. Decided under the Duckworth Lewis Stern method, the result underlined both the composure and depth that have defined Burnside West’s most successful era.

As the competition settles into its rhythm, all eyes again turn to captain Matthew Hay. Now more than 200 matches into his career for the club, Hay continues to set the standard with bat and ball. His influence stretches well beyond the scorecard, and his consistency across formats remains a key reason BWCUCC are perennial contenders in the 50-over game.

Callum Hill is set to play his first one-day match for the club since the unbeaten 2022 campaign, returning after a stint in Sydney Grade cricket with North Sydney over the past couple of years. Hill has never lost a 50-over fixture for Burnside West, and his return adds experience to an already settled batting unit.

Nick Gibb has been the standout with the bat across the summer to date and will again be central to Burnside West’s ambitions. With runs flowing freely and confidence high, Gibb shapes as a player pushing toward higher honours, and the one-day competition offers another platform to press his case.

Scott Janett announced himself at the next level with a century on List A debut for Canterbury, a composed and commanding innings that underlined his class and temperament. A product of the club system and long regarded as a player destined for higher honours, Janett’s ability to bat time and score fluently made the step up look a natural one. When his provincial commitments allow, he will be a significant addition to BWCUCC, bringing top-order stability, big-game experience, and the confidence that comes from succeeding on the domestic stage.

With the ball, the foundation of the side remains its new ball pairing. Jackson Latham and Alex Tait continue to operate as one of the most effective opening combinations in the country. Their ability to strike early and control the power play has been the engine room of BWCUCC’s dominance and a defining feature of the club’s golden period.

Round Two of the OEM Audio One Day Premiership gets underway on January 10, with Burnside West hosting Riccarton at Burnside Park. With momentum already building and key players hitting form, the tone is set for another compelling chapter in the club’s one-day story.
