My best grade team - Jaimie Williams 1986 to 2000
Jaimie Williams | July 10, 2023
Looking back I was fortunate enough to play with and against many fine cricketers with my time at Parramatta and Campbelltown.
I made my first grade debut for Campbelltown in 1986 and played a season for Parramatta before going to the Cricket Academy and playing in Adelaide for the 1988/89 season.
I returned to play for Parramatta until 1996 before finishing up my grade career at Campbelltown in 1999. I also have a very enjoyable season playing Shires with Strathfield in 2000.
Here’s my best team from the players I played with
1. Tim McMahon – Parramatta
Fine stroke player who was always quick to jump onto any short stuff.
2. Brett Williams – Campbelltown and Parramatta – Captain
Got to pick to pick "bro" as he like Tim liked to take the attack up to the opening bowlers.
I remember one game where we rolled Mosman for ninety and Tim and Brett teed off and we passed them in 6 overs.
3. Paul Calvert - Parramatta
“Albert” – great team man and a talented left hander, an asset to any side.
4.Col Gallagher – Parramatta
All "Koala" wanted to do was bat for long periods and he didn’t care too much for fielding.
5. Brett Van Diensen – Campbelltown
Could absolutely tear attacks apart. Very handy medium quick bowler as well.
6. Craig Hughes – Campbelltown and Parramatta
The "golden child" could do anything. Fine all-rounder.
7. Greg Davison – Parramatta
Surely someone with Davo’s height would want to bowl quick! Fine off spinner. Remember one particular game against Bankstown that he bowled from one end for the entire day. Has moved to the umpiring ranks with great success.
8. Allan Turrell – Parramatta and Wicket Keeper
AT gets the nod as keeper. Great gloveman who unselfishly stepped aside as 1st grade keeper to allow me to take the gloves. Great clubman.
9. Neil Jones – Parramatta
Jeckyl was one of the quickest I ever kept to. Hit your gloves hard and often even on slow wickets. Although he had back problems it didn’t seem to slow him down.
10. Daniel Jackson – Parramatta
Had one of the best leg cutters I’ve seen. Gave 200 per cent and was a fierce competitor.
11. Tom Shiner – Campbelltown
What a leg spinner. Tommy could do anything with the ball. Remember one game at Petersham Oval where he had 2 slips and a gully. I couldn’t get a glove on them!
12th Man Billy Newell – Campbelltown
Left arm orthodox bowler - great team man and every club needs a Billy.
Coach - Barry Knight Campbellttown
