Q: Mural biopic "800" to be released on October 6
Sri Lanka's legendary cricketer Muthiah Muralitharan's biopic "800" will be released on 6th October 2023. This was revealed by Sethumadhavan, one of the three directors of the production company.
"We released the trailer today (Tuesday) and it was unveiled by another great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. On the occasion, former Sri Lankan captain SAanath Jayasuriya was also present".
"All three has important discussions and shared their days of glory playing with and against each other".
The 51-year-old Sri Lankan off-spinner ended his Test career with 800th wicket on July 22, 2010 in the Test match against India.
Incidentally, Murali is also a son in law of India. He married Madhimalar Ramamurthy, a Chennai native, on 21 March 2005. Madhimalar is the daughter of the late Dr S Ramamurthy of Malar Hospitals in Chennai.
The roles of Murali and his wife are being played by Madhur Mittal and Mahima Nambiyar. Both were present on the occasion.
The shootings of the biopic took place in India, Sri Lanka and England.
"Originally, the film was made in Tamil and dubbed in Telugu and Hindi. We are planning to make this in English also and the movie will be telecast in other countries also, where the game of cricket is popular", the director concluded.

Q: Is it time to revamp the Sheffield Shield and first class cricket in Australia
Being passionate about cricket and in particular the ongoing production of quality cricketers to represent Australia I think it is time to reconsider the Sheffield Shield format.
I personally still believe Shield Cricket should be the only selection ground for future Australian test players.
My observation is the public have also lost all interest in attending Sheffield Shield matches.
Getting backsides on seats again will obviously be good for the game financially and motivating for our players and perhaps possibly less incentive for players to target franchise cricket.
First class cricket in Australia needs to be escalated back to its previous heights as the production factory for future high quality Australian Cricketers and as a spectacle of choice for supporters. (I don’t believe we should say it is too hard to achieve)
It also must be more motivating for First Class Cricketers to be playing in front of a large crowd then nobody at all.

A: Inevitably players will gravitate towards franchise leagues considering the benefits outweigh the cost and time of waiting for state and baggy green caps. WA won the Shield the last two seasons and a reasonable expectation would be for someone like Ashton Turner to be part of the Ashes reserves but he is playing T10 cricket in Zimbabwe!

Q: As a cricket fan growing up in India, one of my dreams was to set foot at least once into all the top cricket stadiums in the world and watch cricket matches. The Melbourne Cricket Ground was right at the top of this list and on the day I landed in Australia in 2020, I clicked a pic of one of the light towers from Wellington Parade, where my bus had made a stopover, while envisioning myself as experiencing the MCG in all possible ways. To this day, I have had the dream come true in different forms - spectator at Boxing Day Tests, T20 World Cup games, state one-day games, an Australia A game, AFL games, visitor to the sports museum, hospitality worker in the Members Stand, Cricket Australia employee, etc. to name a few.
As a 'step' to the next level, on June 4, I will be climbing 7300 stairs at the G as part of the Stadium Stomp HQ stairclimbing event. Last year, I volunteered at this event while this time I am going to challenge myself to climb 4-5 times as many stairs as I did at the Australia108 building earlier this month.

Q: Last, Friday, I attended the Cricket Victoria Premier Cricket Awards night at the MCG, representing Prahran Cricket Club.
It was a wonderful occasion to reflect on an amazing 2022/23 season and soak in the camaraderie with other club administrators, players, media persons, managers, and board members from across the premier cricket ecosystem. A plethora of awards were given away with the winners exemplifying cricketing values and serving as inspiring role models for the others in the room.
My club won two awards - the Women's competition Spirit of Cricket and the Women's Under-18 Player of the Tournament. Looking back at the men's competition, we came agonisingly short of the Club Championship, finishing second after the last home & away game, and four premiership flags after falling short in the finals. Cricket reinforced the importance of going the extra mile with these results and we start all over again come summer 2023/24.
